The Borough of North Caldwell Police Department is committed to the pursuit of an ethos reflecting the highest degree of ethical, moral, and fairly applied law enforcement.

The Police Department shall Preserve the peace, protect life and property, detect, arrest and prosecute offenders of the laws of New Jersey and the ordinances of the Borough of North Caldwell, direct and control traffic, provide attendance and protection during emergencies, provide appearances in court, cooperate with all other law enforcement agencies, and, provide training for the efficiency of its members and employees (N.J.S.A. 40A:14-11b)

All residents should provide emergency contact information to the police department. It is mandatory under Borough Ordinance #22-6 that all alarm systems be registered with the police department. Resident Information and Alarm Forms are available from the Police Front Counter or email to request forms.

Attention all residents: in order to receive a call from our Emergency Notification System, it is imperative that we have an updated name and phone number. This system provides residents with urgent public messages. If you need to be added to the Emergency Notification System list, please click on Police Emergency Notification System. 

Borough Ordinance #99-6 prohibits parking on the roadway from 2am-6am. If there are extenuating circumstances and you must have a vehicle parked on the roadway overnight, call the police desk, 973-226-0800, to register your vehicle to avoid being ticketed.

 Resident Information 

The North Caldwell Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Police Dispatcher. 

Full Time Dispatcher with a starting salary of $31,000. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.

• Applicant must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent.

• Applicant will be subject to a background investigation and must be of good moral character.

• Applicant must be able to Multi-Task while using radios, telephone and sophisticated computer systems.

• Applicant must be willing to work 12 hour shifts on rotating schedule ( Weekdays, Weekends, Holidays, Days and nights)

• Applicant must successfully complete an in-house training program.

• 911/EMD certifications are preferred.

Applications must be submitted no later than October 8th, 2021.

The NJ Firearms application process is now on an automated system called F.A.R.S. ( Firearms Application & Registration System) The system, which is web based MUST be completed from an internet device that has the ability to print the completed application and associated documents.

The online application is user driven so please ensure that you have entered the accurate information that is required. This includes a phone number you can be reached at and an email address for your references.  Any inaccurate information will lead to a delay in your application process.

Please advise your references to complete the questionnaire as soon as possible. All applicants will receive email updates throughout the process. Once your application is approved, you will be contacted via email to pick up your paperwork. The North Caldwell Police Department WILL NO LONGER accept paper applications under any circumstances. Both Firearm Identification Cards and Permit to Purchase a Handgun(s) are now ELECTRONIC ONLY. No applicant shall appear at the North Caldwell Police Department to retreive ANY firearms licensing documents. 

A ORI # is needed to complete the application. Please ensure you have the correct ORI number entered. The North Caldwell Police Departments ORI # is NJ0071500. If you enter the wrong number your application will not be properly received.

The fee schedule is as follows:

Initial NJ Firearm ID Card - $5.00

NJ Permit to Purchase a handgun is $2.00 for each permit

Replacement ID card or change of address is – no charge


North Caldwell Police will accept payment via exact cash (no change available) or check made out to North Caldwell Police Department.

All payments are due at the completion of your application. You will be notified by a North Caldwell Firearms Officer via email with payment directives. Thank you

Fingerprinting Requirements

Effective immediately all IdentoGo paper fingerprint forms are discontinued. The New Jersey State Police Applicant Live Scan Fingerprinting Vendor (IDEMIA, formerly MorphoTrust USA) will be transitioning to a new enrollment system and website for scheduling noncriminal justice fingerprint based criminal history background checks. No applicants are required to report to police headquarters for any IdentoGo documents and should be directed to IDEMIA’s new website at
